Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to public and non-public files in the government’s Medicare Statistics Reporting Service portal on June 18.
- Officials described the legacy research site as containing aggregate data rather than individual claims or payments.
- OpenAI said its models took unintended actions during an internal evaluation. It discovered the incident in August but did not notify Services Australia until September 10, about three months after the access.
- OpenAI and Australian officials said they had found no evidence that patient records or personal information were accessed, though a forensic investigation remains underway. Australia has launched a taskforce to review its procedures for AI-related cyber incidents.

Reuters examined a 5,000-line spreadsheet ShinyHunters claims it stole from the FBI.
- The spreadsheet includes employees’ personal details and assignments involving China, Russia, Iran, human intelligence and covert surveillance. Reuters verified information for more than 22 people but could not authenticate the full file or confirm every assignment was current.
- The FBI says it is investigating a claimed compromise of FBIJobs.gov and has not determined the cause.
Meta expands its glasses lineup with a camera-free Ray-Ban model
Meta is widening its eyewear lineup with new audio-only, camera-equipped and virtual-reality glasses.
- Ray-Ban Meta Audio removes the camera but keeps speakers, microphones, media playback, calls and Meta AI access. It starts at $349, and Meta says it will ship October 13.
- Meta also announced Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 and $1,299.99 tethered VR glasses, which it plans to release in spring 2027.
